An invitation from Mark Shuttleworth to openSUSE developers …. what a lame and undignified move!
” Novell’s decision to go to great lengths to circumvent the patent framework clearly articulated in the GPL has sent shockwaves through the community. If you are an OpenSUSE developer who is concerned about the
long term consequences of this pact, you may be interested in some of the events happening next week as part of the Ubuntu Open Week:”
This letter, or as he calls it an invitation, has been published @Mark Shuttleworth blog and announced on the opensuse mailing lists…. the idea behind as I see is plain and simple: to get users away from openSUSE!
Posting the message to the OpenSUSE development list is controversial and this sort of recruitment tactic is generally considered trollish, and many members of the OpenSUSE development community unsurprisingly responded with acerbic disdain. Andreas has publsihed a nice answer at his blog … liked it. Much better option, and not for openSUSE and Ubuntu distributions, but in fact for anyone who wants to develop and contribute.
The invitation comes days before Ubuntu Open Week, a week of events for anyone interested in being part of the Ubuntu community. The invitation also coincides with the pending release of openSUSE 10.2, which just received its first release candidate.
