God I hope not. Which versions of the application will people be installing with that? The distrobution versions? the official versions (if there is such a thing)? or the Linspire versions?

I hope they put some protection in place to prevent people from installing click’n'run with a big fat warning and a notice that you are no longer allowed to submit bug-reports.

In the debian/ubuntu world programs such as Firefox are heavily modified to integrate better with the rest of the operating system (things such as the open-with dialog), but also things like system-wide plugins, etc.

Just as using a Debian repository when you are running Ubuntu is a dumb thing to do, so is this. Unfortunately this is targetted at causual users. I understand they think it sucks nobody is using their distrobution. And yes click ‘n’ run is good thing. But for example Ubuntu already has something like this, that uses the _ACTUAL_ ubuntu repositories.

Let’s just hope they change their mind or warn the user that they will most likely end up with a system that is not upgradable anymore. Not even talking about distrobution-updates (going from one version of the distro to the other) which will just be IMPOSSIBLE.
