I come from India, but was brought up in Moscow, Russia, where I have lived most part of my life and still continue to do so.

About This Blog: This blog is all about Linux and Open Source, as you can guess from the blog title. It covers most of the news, reviews, thoughts and trends that is happening in OSS/Linux world, as well as my personal side of it. If you are interested in cooperating and/or advertising on this blog, then get in touch.

My Linux Background: I am a user and supporter of Open Source Software (OSS/FSF) “movement” and as you can see my preferred OS is Linux, which is Novell’s SUSE distribution. I got acquainted with SUSE distro when it was released as version 7, and ever since then SUSE became my preferred Linux distro. Before that I have used several other distros, but mostly Slackware and Redhat. Ever since SUSE 9.0 was introduced, I have totally switched to Linux, and it is now my primary OS on my PC. Windows OS is also present but mostly for gaming purposes.

My other interests: I am a big fan of Formula1 Racing, WilliamsF1 Team being the favourite since 1994. I am totally into music, and my taste is quite broad - starting from Old-School Rap/Hip-Hop/Soul/RnB to Russian Rock to Indian Classical music. Also I like to keep in touch with current world affairs - political, economical, social, technological as well as other trends that tend to shape us and the future of humanity.

I also have a personal blog titled “E@zyVGs’ Vichar”. You can check it out as well, as it’s supposed to be quite diverse and cover wide range of topics.

I’m an Indian as well .. living in South Africa :)
My favoured linux brand is Ubuntu. (Although I was also impressed with Mandriva 2006).
I did try Suse 8, but was put-off by YaST.

Look like there’s only one Cambodian here. Yeah, that’s me!
I’m also a SUSE fan. Actually my switching from Windows concern only to my localization work, but now I find no way to go back.
Oh…one more thing. I’m also a Formula1 fan. But my favorite team is Ferrari. Not exactly prefer the team but the driver. M. Schumacher!!!

I’m from Holland. Using Linux for 1 year now as main OS. Tried several. Didn’t like (K)ubuntu very much (don’t like debian based distro’s generally) so I’m a minority :)

Started with Red Hat when Linux was emerging but didn’t do much with it. Have allways been a fan of Novell so switched to Suse based on the reputation, quality and the fact that Novell support has always been exemplary.

Hi! Your blog is excellent, especially all the posts about SuSE (that is my distro of choice right now). Your post on SuSE 10.1 and RT2500 Wi-Fi saved me, because I just couldn’t get it to work any other way. I am still a Linux noob, so your blog is a huge help to me. I am now a daily reader. I think you are ready for Portland Oregon. They have Mr Torvalds himself, Intel, Google up the river to the East, Nike, + many similar marketing giants, a rockin Racetrack, a wild diverse music scene, 4 hours safedrive from great beaches thru hills, valleys, ski-snowboard mountains to great warm semi-desert high-country, all with vistas, rivers, lakes, parks, great eateries, friendly people, and of course, a small spoiler, the stupidest local politicians on the planet…so if you look for work, a great economy is there too, many many linux fanatics, a lot of normal linux users,and with this blog is a great resume’, you would be a great addition to that locale…

Hey Vichar. You have a very very nice blog, in fact, you made me think of other things to write in my blog.

As a matter of fact, I would love to change to Linux forever, but my printer doesn’t support linux, nor do they have linux drivers for my printer, so I have to dual boot.

Do you know how this… “Blog worth” works?

now it’s good chance to support Linux. There was created poll in Autodesk user group international forum asking to vote about importance to port Autodesk Revit (building information modeling (BIM) software) to other OS. One reason for me and many colleagues why we are stuck on windows are because some one or two particular programs are available only on windows. Software vendors say that there are no need to port to Linux because there are no users.

So please spread that message to world, vote on that poll and show them that there are will from people, that there are a lot of people who use Linux and are happy.

Community did great job to influence Dell to sell preinstalled Linux on their computers. Lets do another miracle for Autodesk. Sometimes such big companies needs some enquaragement (how to spell that word correctly?? ) from community.

Hi Vichar Bhatt, I’m Sathyajith Bhat. Like you my preferred OS is Linux, distro being SuSE, first look at Linux was SuSE6.3, loved it, but lack of hard disk space and an active Internet connection, forced me to go back to Windows. After having at a look at SUSE10.0, have permanently made a switch to Linux, save for gaming purposes. I was looking for free software vs open source material when I managed to stumbleupon/hit upon your site. While I like what u have written, there is a specific issue you need to tackle .

Help! Anybody! My administrator account password expired and I am unable to reset password. I can reset/change the unix password but not the samba/nt password. I use samba and ldap and the smbldap-tools won’t do it. My environment is Windows PC and Servers with several linux boxes of which one controls my domain.
